Narrated Asma bint Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with her): A woman asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! My daughter has had smallpox, and her hair has fallen out. I have already married her off, so may I attach artificial hair to her head?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Allah has cursed the one who attaches artificial hair and the one for whom it is attached."

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that a woman from the Ansar tribe married off her daughter. After that, the girl's hair fell out due to illness, so the woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this to him, saying that the girl's husband had told her to attach (artificial hair) to her own hair. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not ever do that, for those who attach (artificial) hair have been cursed."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah has cursed those women who tattoo and those who get themselves tattooed, those who pluck facial hair, and those who create gaps between their front teeth for beauty, thereby altering the creation of Allah. The words of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reached a woman of the tribe of Banu Asad, who was known as Umm Ya'qub. She came and said, "I have come to know that you have cursed such and such women?" Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has cursed, and who are accursed according to the Book of Allah?" The woman said, "I have also read the Qur'an, but I have not found what you say anywhere in it." He said, "If you had read it carefully, you would surely have found it. Have you not read this verse: 'Whatever the Messenger (peace be upon him) gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it.'" She said, "I have read it." Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) has forbidden these things." Upon this, the woman said, "I think your wife also does this." He said, "Alright, go and see." The woman went and looked, but she did not find any such blameworthy thing there. Then Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "If my wife did such a thing, could she remain with me? Never."

Humaid bin Abdur Rahman narrates that I heard Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) in the year when he went for Hajj. Standing on the pulpit of the Prophet, he took a tuft of hair that was in the hand of his guard and said: O people of Madinah! Where have your scholars gone, that is, have the scholars who used to forbid you disappeared? I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibit this (joining of hair) in this manner, and he said that destruction came upon the Children of Israel when their women began to style their hair in this way (contrary to the Shariah).
