Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the trench was being dug, I found out that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was suffering from extreme hunger. I immediately went to my wife and said: "Do you have anything to eat? I think the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is extremely hungry." My wife brought out a bag in which there was a sa’ (a measure) of barley. We also had a young goat tied at home. I slaughtered the young goat, and my wife ground the barley in the mill. When I finished slaughtering, she had also finished grinding the barley. I cut the meat into pieces and put it in the pot, and then I went to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him). My wife had already warned me not to embarrass her in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his companions. So, I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and quietly said in his ear: "O Messenger of Allah! We have slaughtered a small goat and ground a sa’ of barley that we had, so please come with one or two companions." The Prophet (peace be upon him) announced in a loud voice: "O people of the trench! Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) has prepared food for you. Now leave all your work and come quickly." After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do not take the pot off the stove until I come, and do not start baking the bread." I went home, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) also set out with his companions. When I reached my wife, she started scolding me. I said: "Whatever you told me, I conveyed it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." Finally, my wife brought out the kneaded dough, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) mixed his blessed saliva in it and prayed for blessings. He also mixed his blessed saliva in the pot and prayed for blessings. Then he said: "Now call the woman who bakes the bread. She should bake the bread in front of me and take the meat out of the pot, but do not remove the pot from the stove." The number of companions was about a thousand. I swear by Allah that all of them ate to their fill, and the food was still left over. When everyone had left, our pot was still boiling just as it was at the beginning, and the bread was still being baked.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said to (my mother) Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her): "I heard the voice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and there was much weakness in his voice. I think he is very hungry. Do you have any food?" She said: "Yes." So she took out a few loaves of barley bread, then took out her shawl and wrapped the bread in it, hid it in my hand, and tied the other end of the shawl around my body. After that, she sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When I went, he was sitting in the mosque, and many companions were sitting with him. I stood by him, and he said: "Did Abu Talha send you?" I said: "Yes." He asked: "With some food?" I said: "Yes." The companions who were present with him at that time, he said to all of them: "Come, get up." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) started coming, and I was running ahead of him until I reached Abu Talha's house and informed them. Abu Talha said: "Umm Sulaim! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has brought many people with him. How do we have enough food to feed them all?" Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) know best (why should we worry?)." Anyway, Abu Talha went ahead and met the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Now he was also walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). (Upon reaching home) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Umm Sulaim! Bring whatever you have here." Umm Sulaim brought that bread and placed it before him. Then, at the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the bread was broken into pieces. Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) squeezed a container and poured some ghee over it, and thus it became a curry. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed over it, whatever Allah willed. Then he said: "Call ten people." They did so. All of them ate to their fill, and when they went out, he said: "Call ten more people." So ten people were called, and they also ate to their fill. When they went out, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Call ten more people inside." They did so, and they also ate to their fill. When they went out, he said: "Invite ten more people." In this way, all the people ate to their fill; their number was seventy or eighty.
