Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Hazrat Abu Usaid Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) invited the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to his wedding. His bride, Umm Usaid Salamah bint Wahb, was working and she herself was the bride. Hazrat Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Do you know what he served the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to drink on that occasion? At night, he had soaked some dates in water. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished eating, he was given that (water) to drink.”

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when Hazrat Abu Usaid Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) got married, he invited the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them). On that occasion, the food was prepared by his bride, Umm Usaid (may Allah be pleased with her). She herself served it before the men. She had soaked some dates in a large stone bowl overnight, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished eating, she herself made its syrup and presented it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to drink as a gift.

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that an Arab woman was mentioned to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he ordered Hazrat Abu Usaid Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) to send someone to bring her. So he sent for her, and she came and stayed at the fortress of Banu Sa’ida, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also came and went to her. He saw that a woman was sitting with her head bowed. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to her, she said, “I seek refuge with Allah from you.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to this, “I have granted you refuge.” Later, people asked her, “Do you know who he was?” The woman replied, “No.” The people said, “That was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he had come to you for marriage.” Upon this, she said, “Then I am indeed unfortunate (that I turned away and displeased the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him).” On the same day, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and sat with his companions in the Saqifah of Banu Sa’ida, then said, “Sahl! Serve water.” I brought out this cup for him and gave him water in it. (The narrator of the hadith said) Hazrat Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) also brought out the same cup for us and we also drank water from it. The narrator stated that later, Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) requested it from him, and he gifted it to him.
