Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "Eat the meat of the sacrifice for three days." Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), when departing from Mina, would eat bread with olive oil because he would abstain from the meat of the sacrifice (after three days).

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that in Madinah we used to preserve the meat of sacrifice by applying salt to it, and then we would present it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not eat the meat of sacrifice for more than three days." This command was not obligatory, rather the intention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that we should feed the meat of sacrifice (to those people as well who had not performed sacrifice), and Allah knows best.

Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we would not eat the meat of our sacrificial animals for more than three days after Mina. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted us and said: "Eat it and take it with you as provisions." So we ate and also brought it along.

Hazrat Salamah bin Al-Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you has offered a sacrifice should not have any of its meat left in his house by the third morning. The following year, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Should we do the same this year as we did last year (i.e., not keep the meat of the sacrifice for more than three days)?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Now eat, feed others, and store it. Last year, people were in hardship, so I wanted you to help them in their difficulties.”
