Hadith 1285
Hazrat Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Tomorrow we will face the enemy and we do not have knives with us?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then make haste,” or (instead) he said, “Use ‘Arn’,” meaning, make haste with whatever tool causes blood to flow and Allah’s name is mentioned upon the slaughtered animal, then eat it. However, it should not be a tooth or a nail, and I will also tell you the reason for this: the tooth is a bone and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians.” (Rafi’ says) “We received camels and goats as spoils of war, and one of the camels ran away, so a man shot it with an arrow and brought it down. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘These camels sometimes run away like wild animals, so if any of them escapes your control, do the same with it.’”

Hadith 1286
Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we were staying with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at the place of Dhul-Hulaifah. The people felt hungry. Meanwhile, (as spoils of war) camels and goats were obtained. Hazrat Rafi' narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was among the people at the rear of the army. The people hurried and (before distribution) slaughtered and put the pots on the fire. But later, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered and those pots were overturned. Then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed them and considered ten goats equal to one camel. One camel ran away from them, so the people tried to catch it, but it exhausted everyone. The people had few horses. One companion took an arrow and rushed towards the camel. Allah made it stop. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that these animals also become rebellious like wild animals. Therefore, if any of these animals overpowers you, then treat it in the same way. Then I submitted, "Tomorrow there is fear of an enemy attack, and we do not have knives. (If we slaughter with swords, there is a fear of them getting damaged while battle is ahead.) Can we slaughter with a bamboo stick?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Whatever causes blood to flow and Allah's name is mentioned upon the slaughtered animal, there is no harm in eating it, except for teeth and nails. I will tell you the reason for this: teeth are bones and nails are the knives of the Abyssinians."
