Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I myself do not eat the lizard, but I do not declare it unlawful either."

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that among the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), several companions including Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) were sitting at the dining spread. When people reached out their hands to eat the meat, one of the pure wives, Ummul Momineen Maimunah (may Allah be pleased with her), informed them that it was the meat of a lizard. Everyone refrained from eating. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Eat (he said "kulu" or "at'imu"), for it is lawful, or he said: There is no harm in eating this, but this animal is not my food.

Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the house of Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) along with the Messenger of Allah. Umm al-Mu'mineen was the maternal aunt of both him and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). There was roasted lizard present there, which her sister Hafidah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) had brought from Najd. She presented that roasted lizard to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It was very rare that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would extend his hand towards any food until he was informed about what kind of food it was, but that day he extended his hand towards the meat of the roasted lizard. Meanwhile, one of the women present there said, "Why don't you inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that what you have presented before him is lizard, O Messenger of Allah!" (Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand from the lizard. Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Is lizard forbidden?" He replied, "No, but since it is not found in my land, my nature does not like it." Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) stated, "Then I drew it towards myself and ate it. At that time, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching me."

Hadith Takhrij«صحیح، أخرجه البخاري في: 70 كتاب الأطعمة: 10 باب ما كان النبي صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم لا يأكل حتى يسمى له فيعلم ما هو»
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): His maternal aunt Umm Hufaid (may Allah be pleased with her) sent to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as gifts some cheese, ghee, and a monitor lizard (saanah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate from the cheese and ghee, but left the monitor lizard because he did not like it. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: The monitor lizard was eaten on the table of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and if it had been forbidden, it would not have been eaten on the table of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
