Hadith 1254
Hazrat ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! We release trained dogs (for hunting)?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Eat whatever they keep for you.” I asked, “Even if the dogs kill the prey?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “(Yes,) even if they kill it.” I asked, “We hunt with featherless arrows or sticks?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “If their sharp edge wounds and tears the prey, then eat it, but if the prey is killed by the broad side, then do not eat it (for it is carrion).”

Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about hunting with dogs. He (peace be upon him) said: If you release your trained dogs for hunting and mention the name of Allah at the time of releasing them, then eat whatever they catch for you, even if they kill the prey. However, if the dog eats from the prey itself, then there is a fear that it caught the prey for itself. And if other dogs, besides your own, join in the hunt, then do not eat (from that prey).

Hadith 1256
Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the “Mi’raaz” (hunting with an arrow). He (peace be upon him) said: If it strikes with its sharp edge, then eat (the game), but if it strikes with its broad side, then do not eat, because that is carrion. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I release my dog (for hunting) and I recite Bismillah, but then I find another dog with it, upon which I did not recite Bismillah. I cannot determine which of the two dogs caught the game. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Do not eat the meat of such a game, because you recited Bismillah for your dog, but not for the other.

Hadith 1257
Hazrat ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about hunting with an arrow without a feather, or with a stick, or with a rod. He said: If its point strikes the game, then eat it; but if it strikes the game with its side, then do not eat it, for that is a mauqūdhah (an animal killed by a blow). And I asked him (peace be upon him) about hunting with a dog. He said: Eat what it (the dog) keeps for you (i.e., does not eat itself), for the dog’s catching of the game is (like) slaughtering it. And if, along with your dog or dogs, you find another dog, and you fear that your dog may have caught the game together with the other, and the dog has killed the game, then do not eat such game, for you pronounced the name of Allah (Bismillah) on your dog, but you did not pronounce it on the other dog.

Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you release your dog for hunting and recite Bismillah, and the dog catches the prey and kills it, then eat it. But if the dog eats from it itself, then do not eat it, because it has hunted for itself. And if other dogs, on whom Allah's name was not mentioned, join your dog in the hunt and together they catch and kill the prey, then do not eat such a prey, because you do not know which dog killed it. And if you shoot an arrow at the prey and later, after two or three days, you find the prey and there is no mark on it except the mark of your arrow, then eat such a prey. But if it has fallen into water, then do not eat it.

Hazrat Abu Tha’labah Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I said: O Messenger of Allah! We live in the villages of the People of the Book, so can we eat from their utensils? And we live in a land where there is much hunting. I hunt with my bow and also with my dog that is not trained, and with my dog that is trained. So which of these is permissible for me to eat? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: As for what you mentioned about the utensils of the People of the Book, if you can find other utensils, then do not eat in them, but if you cannot find any other utensils, then wash their utensils thoroughly and eat in them. And whatever game you hunt with your bow, and you have mentioned the name of Allah at the time of shooting, you may eat it. And whatever game you hunt with an untrained dog, and you yourself slaughter the game, you may eat it.
