Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever sets out in the way of Allah (for jihad), Allah becomes his guarantor. (Allah Almighty says:) His faith in Me and his affirmation of My messengers has made him leave (his home for this sacrifice). (I guarantee) that either I will return him with reward and spoils of war, or (after being martyred) I will admit him into Paradise. (The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:) And if I did not consider it difficult for my ummah, I would never stay behind from accompanying the army, and my wish is that I be killed in the way of Allah, then brought back to life, then killed again, then brought back to life, then killed again.

Either Allah will cause him to be martyred and admit him to Paradise, or He will return him to his home with reward and spoils of war.
