Narrated by Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father brought him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "I have given this son of mine a slave as a gift." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Have you given a similar slave to each of your other sons?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Then take it back (from him)."

Hazrat Aamir narrated that I heard Hazrat Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was delivering a sermon on the pulpit, saying: My father gave me a gift, so Amrah bint Rawahah (Nu’man’s mother) said that I will not be pleased until you make the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) a witness to this. So (presenting himself before the Prophet), he said: I have given a gift to my son from Amrah bint Rawahah, but she said that first I should make you a witness to it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Have you given a similar gift to all your children? He replied: No. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fear Allah and maintain justice among your children. So he returned and took back the gift.
