Hazrat Saeed bin Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail (may Allah be pleased with him) had a dispute with Arwa bint Abi Aws regarding a (piece of) land. Arwa claimed that Saeed had seized her land. This case went to Marwan, the governor of Madinah, for judgment. Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Would I usurp her right? I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever unjustly seizes even a handspan of land, a collar of seven earths will be placed around his neck on the Day of Resurrection."

Abu Salamah narrated that there was a dispute over land between him and some other people. He mentioned this to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), so she said: "Abu Salamah! Avoid (taking) land, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If a person takes even a span of land unjustly from someone else, a collar of seven earths will be placed around his neck on the Day of Resurrection."
