Abu Al-Minhāl narrated that I asked Al-Barā’ bin ‘Āzib and Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with them) about the exchange of currency. Both of them referred to each other, saying, "He is better than me." Finally, both of them informed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling gold for silver on credit.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade selling silver for silver and gold for gold except that it be equal for equal. However, we may buy gold for silver in any way we wish, and likewise, we may buy silver for gold in any way we wish.
