Hadith 859
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: "Now migration is no longer obligatory, but (good) intention and jihad still remain. Therefore, when you are called for jihad, be ready. Allah Almighty granted sanctity to this city (Makkah) on the very day He created the heavens and the earth, so it is sacred due to the sanctity decreed by Allah. It was not permissible for anyone before me to fight here, and it was permitted for me only for a short time on one day (the day of the conquest of Makkah). Now, due to the sanctity established by Allah, this city will remain sacred until the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, neither its thorn should be cut, nor its game chased, and except for the one who intends to announce it, no one should pick up anything dropped here, nor should its grass be uprooted." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah, please allow (the use of) idhkhir (a type of grass), for it is necessary here for craftsmen and households." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Idhkhir is permitted."

Hadith 860
Sayyiduna Abu Shurayh (may Allah be pleased with him) said to ‘Amr bin Sa‘id (the governor of Madinah) when he was sending armies to Makkah (to fight Ibn Zubayr, may Allah be pleased with him): O Amir! If you permit me, I will narrate to you a hadith which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the second day of the conquest of Makkah. My two ears heard it, my heart remembered it, and my eyes were looking at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was saying it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) first praised Allah and then said: Allah has made Makkah sacred; people have not made it sacred. So (listen), it is not permissible for any person who believes in Allah and the Last Day to shed blood in Makkah or to cut down its trees. Then, if anyone argues by saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fought there, then say to him: Allah permitted His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), not you. And I too was granted permission for only a few moments of the day. Today, its sanctity has returned as it was yesterday. And let the present convey this to the absent. (After hearing this hadith, the narrator of the hadith was asked) Sayyiduna Abu Shurayh (may Allah be pleased with him): What did ‘Amr reply after hearing this from you? He said: (‘Amr said) O Abu Shurayh! I know the hadith better than you. But the Haram (of Makkah) does not grant protection to a wrongdoer, or one who has killed someone, or one who has caused mischief and then fled there.

Hadith 861
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when Allah Almighty granted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the conquest of Makkah, he stood before the people and, after praising and glorifying Allah, said: Allah Almighty had prevented the army of elephants from entering Makkah, but He granted it to His Messenger and the Muslims to conquer. Behold, this Makkah was never made lawful (for fighting) for anyone before me, and it was made lawful for me only for a short part of the day. After me, it will not be lawful for anyone. Therefore, its game should not be disturbed, nor should its thorny plants be cut. Only that lost item is lawful here for the one who announces it. Whoever’s man is killed here, he has two options: either to take blood money (wealth) from the killer or to take a life for a life. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, allow us to cut the Idhkhir (a type of grass), for we use it in our graves and houses. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fine, permission is granted to cut Idhkhir. Then, a Companion from Yemen, Abu Shah, stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, have this sermon written for me. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the Companions: Write this sermon for Abu Shah.
