Hadith 779
779 صحيح حديث ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: إِذَا طَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ فَقَدْ حَلَّ، فَقُلْتُ: مِنْ أَيْنَ قَالَ هذَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: مِنْ قَوْلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى (ثُمَّ مَحِلُّهَا إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْعَتِيقِ) ، وَمِنْ أَمْرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصْحَابَهُ أَنْ يَحِلُّوا فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قُلْتُ: إِنَّمَا كَانَ ذلِكَ بَعْدَ الْمُعَرَّفِ قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَرَاهُ قَبْلُ وَبَعْدُ
Ibn Jurayj narrates that ‘Ata’ (may Allah have mercy on him) informed me from Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The one performing ‘Umrah becomes lawful (i.e., comes out of the state of ihram) only after performing the Tawaf of the House (the Ka‘bah). (Ibn Jurayj says:) I asked ‘Ata’ from where did Ibn ‘Abbas derive this ruling? He replied: From the statement of Allah, “mahilluha ila al-bayt al-‘atiq” () (al-Hajj 33), and from the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which he gave to his companions during the Farewell Hajj to come out of ihram. I said: But that command was after standing at ‘Arafat. ‘Ata’ said: But the view of Ibn ‘Abbas was that in every case, whether before or after standing at ‘Arafat, whenever one performs Tawaf, it is permissible to come out of ihram () (al-Hajj 33) (Then their becoming lawful is at the Ancient House, i.e., the Ka‘bah).
