Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived (in Makkah) on the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting the Talbiyah along with his companions. Then he said that those who do not have a sacrificial animal should intend for ‘Umrah instead of Hajj (and after completing ‘Umrah, become halal, then enter into the state of Ihram for Hajj).

Abu Jamrah Nasr bin Imran Dab'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that I put on the Ihram for Hajj and Umrah together, so some people forbade me from doing so. Therefore, I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about this matter. He told me to perform Tamattu'. Then I saw in a dream that a person was saying to me: "Your Hajj has been accepted and your Umrah has been accepted." I related this dream to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, so he said: "This is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." Then he said: "Stay with me, I will allocate something for you from my own wealth." Shu'bah (the narrator) said: I asked (Abu Jamrah), "Why did Ibn Abbas do this?" (i.e., why did he say he would give you wealth?) He replied: "Because of the dream that I had seen."
