Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty says: Every good deed of the son of Adam is for himself except fasting; it is especially for Me and I alone will give its reward. And fasting is a shield against sins. If any of you is fasting, he should neither use foul language nor raise his voice. If someone abuses him or wants to fight with him, he should simply reply: “I am a fasting person.” By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the smell from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the fragrance of musk. The fasting person has two joys: (one is) when he breaks his fast, he rejoices, and (the other is) when he meets his Lord, he will be happy with the reward of his fasting.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is a gate in Paradise called Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection, only those who fast will enter Paradise through it; no one else will enter through it. It will be announced, “Where are those who fasted?” They will stand up, and no one else will be able to enter through it except them. When they have entered, the gate will be closed, and then no one else will be able to enter through it.
