Hadith 702
Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when this verse was revealed: “Those who have the ability should give a ransom by feeding a poor person” (Al-Baqarah 184), whoever wished would leave fasting and instead give the ransom. This continued until the next verse was revealed: “Whoever among you is present in this month should fast” and it abrogated the previous verse.
