Hadith 653
653 صحيح حديث عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ذَكَرَ رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: لاَ تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوُا الْهِلاَلَ، وَلاَ تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Ramadan and said: Do not begin fasting until you see the moon, and likewise, do not end the fast until you see the moon. And if it is cloudy, then complete thirty days.
Hadith 654
654 صحيح حديث ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الشَّهْرُ هكَذَا وَهكَذَا وَهكَذَا يَعْنِي ثَلاَثِينَ ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَهكَذَا وَهكَذَا وَهكَذَا يَعْنِي تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ، يَقُولُ، مَرَّةً ثَلاَثِينَ وَمَرَّةً تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A month is of such and such and such and such days." By this, he meant thirty days. Then he said: "And such and such and such and such days." His indication was towards twenty-nine days. Once, he pointed towards thirty, and on another occasion, towards twenty-nine.
Hadith 655
655 صحيح حديث ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّا أُمَّةٌ أُمِّيَّةٌ، لاَ نَكْتُبُ وَلاَ نَحْسُبُ، الشَّهْرُ هكَذَا وَهكَذَا يَعْنِي مَرَّةً تِسْعَةً وَعِشْرِينَ، وَمَرَّة ثَلاَثِينَ
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We are an unlettered nation; we neither write nor calculate. The month is like this and like this. He meant sometimes twenty-nine (days) and sometimes thirty (days). (He indicated with all his ten fingers three times.)
Hadith 656
656 صحيح حديث أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبَيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صُوموا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ غُبِّيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا عِدَّةَ شَعْبَانَ ثَلاَثِينَ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, or he said that Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Begin fasting upon sighting the moon and end fasting upon sighting the moon, and if it is cloudy, then complete thirty days."
