Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when Allah Almighty granted His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) the spoils from the tribe of Hawazin, and the Prophet began giving some men of the Quraysh a hundred camels each (to win their hearts), some of the Ansar said, "May Allah forgive the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and leaving us out, even though their blood is still dripping from our swords." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when this news reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he called the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent. He did not call any other Companion besides them. When all the Ansar had gathered, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came and asked, "How true is what I have heard about you?" The wise men among the Ansar replied, "O Messenger of Allah, those among us who are sensible have not uttered any such thing. Yes, a few young men have said, 'May Allah forgive the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and not to us, even though their blood is still dripping from our swords.'" Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I give to some people whose time of disbelief is still recent (and by giving to them, I win their hearts). Are you not pleased that while other people return with wealth and property, you will return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? By Allah, what you are taking back with you is better than what others are taking back." All the Ansar said, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased and happy with this." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them, "After me, you will see that others will be preferred over you. At that time, be patient (do not cause strife) until you meet Allah and His Messenger at the Pond of Kawthar." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, "Then we could not remain patient."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once specifically called the Ansar and then asked them, "Is there anyone among you who does not belong to your tribe?" They replied, "Only one of our nephews is such." The Prophet said, "A nephew is also considered part of the same people."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave all the spoils of the Battle of Hunayn to the Quraysh, some young men from the Ansar said, “By Allah, this is a strange thing! The blood of the Quraysh is still dripping from our swords, and all the spoils we have gained are being given only to them.” When this news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he called the Ansar. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “Is the news that has reached me true?” The Ansar were not people who lied, so they replied, “You have received accurate information.” Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Are you not pleased and satisfied that when all the people return to their homes with the spoils, you will return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with you? Whichever valley or mountain pass the Ansar take, I will also take that valley or mountain pass.”

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that during the Battle of Hunayn, when the fighting began with the tribe of Hawazin, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had an army of ten thousand with him. The people of Quraysh who had been set free by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) after the conquest of Makkah were also with him. Then all of them turned their backs (and fled). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called out, "O Ansar!" They replied, "We are present, O Messenger of Allah, we are ready to obey your every command, we are before you." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted from his ride and said, "I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger." Then the polytheists were defeated. Those people whom the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had set free after the conquest of Makkah and the Muhajirun were given (spoils) by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but the Ansar were not given anything. At this, the Ansar expressed their grief, so he called them and gathered them in a tent. Then he said, "Are you not pleased that other people take sheep and camels with them, and you take the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with you?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If people walk in a valley or a mountain pass, and the Ansar walk in another valley or mountain pass, I would prefer to walk in the valley of the Ansar."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, the spoils which Allah Almighty granted to His Messenger, he distributed among those people of weak faith (who had embraced Islam after the conquest of Makkah), and did not give anything from it to the Ansar. They felt some grief over this, thinking, "Why did the wealth that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave to others, not get given to us?" After this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) addressed them and said, "O Ansar! Did I not find you astray, then Allah guided you through me? And you were enemies to one another, then Allah created love among you through me? And you were needy, then Allah enriched you through me?" At each sentence of the Prophet, the Ansar kept responding, "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have the greatest favor upon us." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "What prevented you from replying to my words?" It is narrated that at every statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Ansar kept saying, "Allah and His Messenger have the greatest favor upon us." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If you wish, you could also say to me (that when you came, people were denying you, but we affirmed you, etc.). Are you not pleased that when people will be taking away camels and goats, you will be returning to your homes with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with you? If there were no virtue in migration, I would have been one of the Ansar myself. If people walk in any valley or mountain pass, I will walk in the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are like the inner garment, which always remains close to the body, and other people are like the outer garment." That is, you (the Ansar) will see that after me, others will be given preference over you. At such a time, be patient until you meet me at the Hawd (the Pond).

Hadith 637
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that after the battle of Hunayn, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gave (from the spoils) to some people more than others, such as giving Aqra’ bin Habis (may Allah be pleased with him) one hundred camels, and the same number of camels to ‘Uyainah bin Hisn (may Allah be pleased with him), and similarly giving more to several Arab chiefs in the distribution. Upon this, a man said, “By Allah, neither justice has been considered in this distribution nor the pleasure of Allah.” I said, “By Allah, I will surely inform the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this.” So I went to him and informed him of what had been said. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and said, “If Allah and His Messenger do not act justly, then who will act justly? May Allah have mercy on Musa (Moses, peace be upon him), for he was harmed by people even more than this, but he remained patient.”
