Sulaiman Shaybani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) stated that a person informed me who (once) was passing with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) by a solitary, isolated, broken grave. There, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer and the people formed rows behind him. Sulaiman said: I asked Sha’bi, “Abu Amr, who narrated this to you?” He replied, “Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).”

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a black man or a black woman used to serve the mosque. He/she passed away, but no one informed the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) of his/her death. One day, the Prophet remembered and asked about that person, noticing he/she was not seen. The companions said, "O Messenger of Allah, he/she has passed away." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Why did you not inform me?" The companions replied, "This and this was the reason (so we did not trouble you)." It was as if the people considered him/her insignificant and not worthy of attention. But the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Show me his/her grave." So he went to the grave and offered the funeral prayer for him/her.
