Lady Umm ‘Atiyyah Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that when the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (Zainab or Umm Kulthum, may Allah be pleased with them) passed away, he came there and said: “Give her a bath three or five times, and if you deem it appropriate, even more than that. Mix lote tree leaves in the water, and at the end, use camphor or (he said) some camphor. And when you finish bathing her, inform me.” So when we had bathed her, we informed him. He gave us his waist-wrapper (izar) and said: “Make it her shirt.” By this, he meant his own waist-wrapper.

Lady Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that we were washing the daughter of the Messenger of Allah when he came and said: “Wash her three or five times, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lotus leaves, and use camphor at the end. When you have finished, inform me.” When we finished, we informed him. He gave us his waist-wrapper and said: “Wrap it on her body from the inside.” Ayyub (the narrator) said that Hafsah also narrated to me the hadith of Muhammad ibn Sirin in a similar manner. In the narration of Lady Hafsah, it was mentioned to wash an odd number of times, and it was detailed as three, five, or seven times (to wash), and it was also mentioned to begin washing from the right side and the limbs of ablution. It was also in this hadith that Umm ‘Atiyyah said: “We combed her hair and divided it into three braids.”
