Hadith 523
A Jewish woman came to the purified wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), to ask for something, and she prayed, "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave." Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), "Will people be punished in the grave?" Upon this, he replied, "I seek refuge with Allah from that." Then, one morning, you mounted (to go somewhere), after which a solar eclipse occurred. You returned after the day had advanced and, passing through the chambers of your wives, stood (in the mosque) for prayer. The companions also made intention behind you. You stood for a very long time, then bowed for a very long time. After that, you stood up, and this time the standing was again long, but a little less than before. Then you bowed, and this time also remained in bowing for a long time, but a little less than the previous bowing. Then you raised your head from bowing and went into prostration. Now you stood up again and stood for a long time, but less than the previous standing. Then you bowed for a long time, but less than the previous bowing. Then you raised your head from bowing and, this time too, remained standing for a long time, but less than before (the fourth time). Then you bowed and remained in bowing for a long time, but shorter than before. When you raised your head from bowing, you went into prostration. Finally, you completed the prayer in this manner. After that, you said whatever Allah willed you to say. In that sermon, you instructed the people to seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.
