Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet led the people in prayer; first, he stood for a long time, then bowed (ruku‘) and remained in ruku‘ for a long time. After rising from ruku‘, he stood again for a long time, but this standing was a bit shorter than the first. Then he bowed again and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but shorter than the first. Then he went into prostration (sajda) and stayed in sajda for a long time. In the second rak‘ah, he did the same. When he finished, the eclipse had cleared. After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) delivered a sermon. After praising Allah, he said: “The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of anyone’s death or life. When you see an eclipse, supplicate to Allah, say takbir, pray, and give charity.” Then he said: “O people of Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) ummah, know that no one is more possessive (protective) than Allah regarding His servant or maidservant committing adultery. O ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him), by Allah, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much.”

The respected wife of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated that during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. At that time, he went to the mosque and the people formed rows behind him. He said the takbir and recited the Qur'an for a long time. Then he said the takbir and performed a long bowing (ruku‘). Then, after saying "Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah," he stood up and did not prostrate (after rising from ruku‘). Then he recited the Qur'an for a long time again, but less than the first recitation. Then, with the takbir, he went into ruku‘ and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but less than the first ruku‘. Then, with the takbir, he went into ruku‘ and remained in ruku‘ for a long time, but less than the first ruku‘. Now, after saying "Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah" and "Rabbana wa lakal hamd," he went into prostration. In the second rak‘ah, he did the same (in both rak‘ahs), making a total of four ruku‘ and four prostrations. Before the prayer was finished, the sun had already cleared. After the prayer, he stood and delivered a sermon. First, he praised Allah as He deserves, then said: "The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. Their eclipse does not occur due to the death or life of anyone. But when you see an eclipse, hasten to prayer immediately."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that when there was a solar eclipse, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stood up (for prayer) and recited a long Surah, then he bowed and made a very long bowing, then he raised his head, after which he started another Surah, then he bowed and completed the bowing, finishing that rak'ah and went into prostration. Then in the second rak'ah, he did the same. After finishing the prayer, he said that the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, so when you see an eclipse in them, start praying until it becomes clear. And look, I have seen from this very place all those things that have been promised to me, to the extent that I even saw that I wanted to take a bunch from Paradise. You people must have seen that I was moving forward, and I also saw Hell (in such a state that) some parts of the fire were consuming other parts. You people must have seen that after witnessing this terrifying scene of Hell, I moved back. I saw Amr bin Luhayy inside Hell; he is the person who started the custom of the idol of the bull among the Arabs.
