Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once, during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a drought. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was delivering a sermon when a Bedouin said, "O Messenger of Allah, the animals have died and the families are suffering from hunger. Pray to Allah for us." The Prophet (peace be upon him) raised both his hands. At that time, there was not a single cloud visible in the sky. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, he had not yet lowered his hands when clouds, like mountains, gathered, and before he had even descended from the pulpit, I saw that rainwater was dripping from his blessed beard. That day, and continuously until the next Friday, it kept raining. (On the second Friday) the same Bedouin stood up again, or it is said that another person stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the buildings have collapsed and the animals have drowned. Pray to Allah for us." The Prophet (peace be upon him) raised both his hands and prayed, "O Allah, now let the rain fall elsewhere and withhold it from us." Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) pointed with his hand towards any direction for the clouds, the sky would clear in that direction. The whole of Madinah became like a pond, and the canal of Qanat flowed for a month, and those coming from the surrounding areas also reported abundant rainfall in their regions.
