Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the day of Jumu'ah, taking a bath is obligatory for every adult."

The purified wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), said that people used to come to offer the Friday prayer from their homes and from the surrounding villages of Madinah (to Masjid Nabawi) in turns. People would come walking through dust, covered in dust and drenched in sweat, to such an extent that the sweating would not stop. In this condition, a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while he was with me. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "It would be better if you people performed ghusl (ritual bath) on this day (Friday)."
