Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Angels take turns among you by night and by day, and they gather at the times of Fajr and Asr prayers. Then those angels who have stayed among you ascend, and Allah asks them—though He knows best about His servants—"In what state did you leave My servants?" They reply, "We left them while they were praying (Fajr), and when we came to them, they were praying (Asr)."

Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah Bajali رضي الله عنه narrates that we were in the presence of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم when he looked at the moon and said: "You will see your Lord (in the Hereafter) just as you are seeing this moon now; you will have no difficulty in seeing Him. So if you can ensure that nothing prevents you from the prayer before sunrise (Fajr) and the prayer before sunset (Asr), then do so." Then he recited this verse: "So glorify the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting."
