Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would perform the ‘Asr prayer, the sun would be high and intensely bright. Then a person would go towards the upper area of Madinah, and even after reaching there, the sun would still be high. (The narrator said that) some places in the upper area of Madinah are situated at about four miles or something like that.

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Sahl, may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: We performed the Zuhr prayer with ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul ‘Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him), then we went out and presented ourselves before Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and saw that he was performing prayer. I asked, “O honorable uncle, which prayer have you just performed?” He replied, “The ‘Asr prayer, and at this very time we used to perform this prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as well.”

Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we would perform the 'Asr prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then slaughter a camel, divide it into ten portions, and before the sun would set, we would even eat its cooked meat.
