Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw phlegm on the wall of the Qiblah, so he scraped it off, and addressing the people, he said: When any person is in prayer, he should not spit in front of him, because during prayer, Allah Almighty is before his face.

Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw phlegm on the qiblah wall of the mosque, so he scraped it off with a pebble. Then he said: No person should spit in front of him or to his right side, but rather he should spit to his left side or under his foot.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Spitting in the mosque is a sin, and its expiation is to bury it (in the ground).
