Abu Salih Saman (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that I saw Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) performing prayer on Friday, facing something and using it as a barrier for the people. A young man from among the sons of Abu Mu'ayt wanted to pass in front of him. Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) tried to stop him by pushing him on the chest. The young man looked around in all directions but found no way except to pass in front, so he again turned to go from that side. Then Abu Sa'id pushed him even harder than before. The young man complained about this and took his complaint to Marwan. After that, Abu Sa'id also went there. Marwan said, "O Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), what happened between me and your nephew?" He replied, "I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'When a person prays facing something and uses it as a barrier, then if someone tries to pass in front, he should stop him. If he insists, then fight him, for he is a devil.'"

Busr bin Sa'id said that Zaid bin Khalid sent him to Sayyiduna Abu Juhaim Abdullah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him what he had heard from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) regarding someone passing in front of a person who is praying. Sayyiduna Abu Juhaim (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: If the one passing in front of a person who is praying knew how great a sin it is, he would prefer to stand there for forty rather than pass in front of him.
