Hadith 259
259 صحيح حديث ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: انْطَلَقَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَامِدِينَ إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ، وَقَدْ حِيلَ بَيْنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّهُبُ فَرَجَعَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ، فَقَالُوا مَا لَكُمْ قَالُوا: حِيلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْنَا الشُّهُبُ قَالُوا: مَا حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ إِلاَّ شَيْءٌ حَدَثَ، فَاضْرِبُوا مَشَارِقَ الأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا فَانْظُرُوا مَا هذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ فَانْصَرَفَ أُولئِكَ الَّذِينَ تَوَجَّهُوا نَحْوَ تِهَامَةَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهُوَ بِنَخْلَةَ عَامِدِينَ إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ، وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلاَةَ الْفَجْرِ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا الْقُرْآنَ اسْتَمَعُوا لَهُ؛ فَقَالُوا: هذَا وَاللهِ الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، فَهُنَالِكَ حِينَ رَجَعُوا إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ؛ فَقَالُوا: (يَا قوْمَنَا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا يَهْدِي إلى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ وَلَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا) فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ (قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ) وَإِنِّمَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ قَوْلُ الْجِنِّ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) once went with some companions towards the market of ‘Ukaz. In those days, the devils had been prevented from obtaining news from the heavens, and flaming fire (shooting stars) began to be thrown at them. So those devils returned to their people and asked, “What has happened?” They said, “We have been prevented from obtaining news from the heavens, and (when we go towards the heavens) flaming fire is thrown at us.” The devils said, “There must be some new reason for us being prevented from obtaining news from the heavens, so spread out in the east and west in all directions and find out the cause that has prevented us from obtaining news from the heavens.” The devils who set out to find the reason went towards Tihamah, where the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), while going to the market of ‘Ukaz, was offering the Fajr prayer with his companions at the place of Nakhlah. When they heard the Qur’an, they listened to it attentively. Then they said, “By Allah, this is what has prevented us from obtaining news from the heavens.” Then they returned to their people and said, “O people of our community, we have heard a wondrous Qur’an which guides to the straight path, so we have believed in it and we will never associate anyone with our Lord.” ( ) Upon this, this verse (Surah al-Jinn) was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): (Say: It has been revealed to me...) and the conversation of the jinn was revealed to you.
