Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when we conquered Khaybar, we did not find any gold or silver among the spoils of war, but rather cattle, camels, goods, and gardens. Then we returned with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Wadi al-Qura. There was a slave named Mid'am with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who had been given to him as a gift by a companion from Banu Dubab. He was unloading the saddle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when an arrow came from an unknown direction and struck him. The people said, "Congratulations on martyrdom!" But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Never! By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the cloak which he stole from the spoils of war at Khaybar before its distribution is now burning upon him as a flame of fire." Upon hearing this, another companion came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with one or two straps and said, "I had taken these." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This too becomes a strap of Hellfire."
