Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad, that is, Miqdad bin Amr Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him), was an ally of Banu Zuhrah and was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Badr. He reported that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "If at any time I encounter a disbeliever and we both strive to kill each other, and he strikes my hand with a sword and cuts it off, then he flees from me and takes refuge under a tree and says, 'I have believed in Allah,' then, O Messenger of Allah, after his declaration, should I still kill him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then do not kill him." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, he has already cut off one of my hands, and he is declaring this after cutting off my hand?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) still said, "Do not kill him, because if you kill him, then before killing him, the position you had will now be his position, and your position will be the one he had at the time when he had not declared the testimony."

Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us towards the tribe of Huraqa. We attacked them in the morning and defeated them. Then I and another Ansari companion confronted a man from this tribe (Mirdas bin Amr). When we overpowered him, he began to say "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah). The Ansari immediately stopped, but I killed him with my spear. When we returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this. He asked, "Usama, did you kill him even after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" I replied, "He only said it to save himself (he did not say it from his heart)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating, "Did you kill him even after he said 'La ilaha illallah'?" until I wished that I had not accepted Islam before that day.
