Brief Explanation
Ibn Battal states that there is consensus among the scholars on the prohibition of altering lineage (the changing of lineage). Since the ruling of wala’ (allegiance due to manumission) is the same as that of lineage, just as lineage cannot be transferred, likewise, it is impermissible to transfer wala’. In the era of ignorance (jahiliyyah), people used to transfer wala’ through sale and other means; therefore, the Shari‘ah has prohibited this. (Murattib rahimahullah)
