Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the Battle of Khaybar. We performed the Fajr prayer there while it was still dark. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) mounted his ride and Abu Talha also mounted. I was sitting behind Abu Talha. The Prophet (peace be upon him) directed his mount towards the streets of Khaybar. My knee would touch the thigh of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) removed the lower garment from his thigh until I began to see the whiteness and shine of the clear and white thighs of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him). When you entered the settlement of Khaybar, you said: “Allahu Akbar! Khaybar is destroyed. When we descend into the courtyard of a people, then the morning of those who have been warned becomes evil.” You said this three times. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Jews of Khaybar had just come out for their work when they cried out, “Muhammad (peace be upon him) has arrived with the army.” So we fought Khaybar and conquered it, and captives were gathered. Then Dihyah came and submitted, “O Messenger of Allah, grant me a slave-girl from among the captives.” You said, “Go, take any slave-girl.” He took Safiyyah bint Huyayy. Then a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), Safiyyah, who is the daughter of the chief of Qurayzah and Nadir, you have given her to Dihyah, but she is only suitable for you.” Upon this, you said, “Call Dihyah with Safiyyah.” They were brought. When the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) saw her, he said, “Take any other slave-girl from among the captives.” The narrator said: Then the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) freed Safiyyah and took her into his marriage. Thabit Banani asked Sayyiduna Anas, “Abu Hamzah, what did the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) fix as her dowry?” Sayyiduna Anas replied, “Her freedom itself was her dowry, and upon this the Prophet (peace be upon him) married her.” Then, on the way, Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her, the mother of Sayyiduna Anas) prepared her as a bride and sent her to the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) at night. Now the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) was a groom, so he said, “Whoever has any food, let him bring it here.” You spread a leather dining sheet. Some Companions brought dates, some brought ghee (the narrator said, “I think Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) also mentioned sattu (roasted barley flour)”), then the people made a sweet dish from it. This was the wedding feast (walimah) of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
