Hadith 854

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), during the Hajj on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed him as leader, sent him on the tenth day to announce before a gathering that after this year, no polytheist may perform Hajj to the House of Allah, nor may anyone perform Tawaf while naked.

Brief Explanation
In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), the common Arabs used to remove their clothes saying, “We have committed sins in these garments.” Then, either they would borrow clothes from the Quraysh and perform tawaf (circumambulation) in them, or they would perform tawaf naked. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made this announcement. (Secret)
