Hadith 851

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would return from any expedition, Hajj, or Umrah, he would say takbeer three times upon ascending any elevated ground, then he would supplicate: There is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, His is the dominion and for Him is all praise, and He is over all things competent. We return, repenting, worshipping our Lord, and praising Him. Allah fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, and alone defeated all the armies.

Brief Explanation
Raising the slogan of takbir while ascending to a height, remembering the loftiness and greatness of Allah Ta'ala, is a mark of faith. Allah Ta'ala grants elevation in this world as well to those who possess such belief and action. The indication of defeating the army refers to the Battle of Ahzab, where the disbelievers had gathered in great numbers, but in the end, they were disappointed and ruined. (Raaz)
