It is narrated from Bakr bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he mentioned to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) had related to him that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had assumed Ihram for both ‘Umrah and Hajj. (So Ibn Umar said:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) assumed Ihram for Hajj, and we also assumed Ihram for Hajj along with him. Then when we reached Makkah, he said: Whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him should convert his Ihram of Hajj into ‘Umrah (and after performing Tawaf and Sa’i, should come out of Ihram). And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a sacrificial animal with him. Then Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) returned from Yemen, having assumed Ihram for Hajj. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: How did you assume Ihram? Your wife (Sayyidah Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her) is also with us. He replied: I have assumed Ihram in the same manner as you have. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then remain in your Ihram, for we have a sacrificial animal with us.
