Hadith 771

When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) set out with the intention of going to Makkah, he said: If I am prevented from reaching the House of Allah, then I will do the same thing that I did with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the year of Hudaybiyyah. He had assumed Ihram for Umrah, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had also assumed Ihram for Umrah in the year of Hudaybiyyah. Then, after some reflection, he said: Umrah and Hajj are indeed one and the same. After that, he also said the same to his companions: These two are indeed one and the same. I make you witnesses that I have now made Hajj obligatory for myself along with Umrah. Then (upon reaching Makkah), he performed only one Tawaf for both. He believed that this was sufficient, and he had also brought a sacrificial animal with him.
