Abdullah bin Haneen narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhrama had a disagreement over an issue at a place called Abwa. Abdullah bin Abbas said that a person in the state of Ihram can wash his head, but Miswar said that a person in Ihram should not wash his head. Then Abdullah bin Abbas sent me to Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask about the issue. When I reached his service, he was bathing between two wooden planks of a well, and he had covered himself with a cloth. When I arrived and greeted him, he asked, "Who are you?" I replied, "I am Abdullah bin Haneen. Abdullah bin Abbas has sent me to you to ask how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wash his blessed head while in the state of Ihram." Upon hearing this, he placed his hand on the cloth (with which he was covered) and lowered it, so his head became visible. He told the person who was pouring water on his body to pour water on his head. That person poured water on his head, then he moved his head with both hands, brought both hands forward and then backward, and said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do this in the state of Ihram."
