Sayyiduna Ya’la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), “Sometimes show me the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when revelation is being sent down upon him.” (Ya’la) narrated that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was staying at Ji’ranah with a group of his companions when a man came and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is your ruling about a person who has put on the Ihram for ‘Umrah while his clothes are scented with perfume?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent for a while, then revelation was sent down upon him. Sayyiduna Umar signaled to Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him), so Ya’la came and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was covered with a cloth, inside which he was present. Ya’la put his head inside the cloth and saw that the blessed face was red and he was snoring. Then this state ended, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Where is the person who asked about ‘Umrah?” The mentioned person was brought, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Wash off the perfume you have applied three times and take off your cloak. Perform ‘Umrah as you perform Hajj.”
