Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: Of all the prayers, the most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of Dawud (peace be upon him), and of all the fasts, the most beloved fast to Allah is the fast of Dawud (peace be upon him). He would sleep for half the night, then spend a third of it in prayer, and then sleep again for a sixth of it. Similarly, he would fast one day and break his fast the next day.
