Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fasting is a shield for protection from the Fire, so (the fasting person) should neither utter obscene words nor behave ignorantly. And if someone fights with him or abuses him, then his only response should be: "I am fasting" (he should say these words) twice. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the smell from the mouth of a fasting person is more beloved and purer to Allah than the fragrance of musk. (Allah Almighty says:) My servant leaves his food, drink, and desires for My sake. Fasting is for Me, and I alone will give its reward. (And for other) good deeds, the reward is multiplied tenfold.
