Hadith 68

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: There are three types of people to whom Allah will not even look on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them there will be a painful punishment: First, a person who has surplus water on the road but withholds it from a traveler in need; second, a person who pledges allegiance to a ruler only for worldly gain—if the ruler gives him something, he is pleased, but if not, he becomes displeased; third, a person who brings his merchandise for sale after Asr prayer and swears by Allah—besides whom there is no true deity—that he was offered such and such a price for it, so someone believes him and buys it at that price. Then the Prophet recited this verse: "Indeed, those who exchange Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment." (__QUR_3:77__)
