Abu Bakr ibn Abdur Rahman bin Harith bin Hisham narrates that his father Abdur Rahman informed him, and Marwan informed him, and Sayyida Aisha and Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with them both) informed him that (sometimes) the dawn would break while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of major ritual impurity with his family, then he would perform ghusl (ritual bath) and he would be fasting. And Marwan bin Hakam said to Abdur Rahman bin Harith, "I swear by Allah, make Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) hear this hadith clearly from you (because the fatwa of Sayyiduna Abu Huraira was contrary to this)." In those days, Marwan was the governor of Madinah on behalf of Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu Bakr said that Abdur Rahman did not like this matter. Coincidentally, we all gathered once at Dhul-Hulaifah. Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) had some land there. Abdur Rahman said to him, "I will tell you something, and if Marwan had not made me swear by it, I would never have brought it up before you." Then he mentioned the hadith of Sayyida Aisha and Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "(What can I do?)" He said that Fadl bin Abbas narrated this hadith, and he knew better.
