Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting continuously (without taking suhoor and iftar). Upon this, a man from among the Muslims said, "O Messenger of Allah, but you observe continuous fasting?" He replied, "Who among you is like me? My Lord feeds me at night and gives me drink." When the people still did not refrain from fasting continuously, he fasted continuously with them for two days, then the moon of Eid appeared. He said, "If the moon had not appeared, I would have continued fasting for more days," as if, when they did not refrain from continuous fasting, he said this to punish them.
