Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that when any food was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he would ask whether it was a gift or charity. If it was said that it was charity, he would tell his companions to eat, but he himself would not eat from it. And if it was said that it was a gift, then he, peace and blessings be upon him, would also extend his hand and eat from it along with his companions.
