Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when Allah Almighty granted His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) the spoils from the tribe of Hawazin, and the Prophet began giving some men of the Quraysh a hundred camels each (to win their hearts), some of the Ansar said, "May Allah forgive the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and leaving us out, even though their blood is still dripping from our swords." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when this news reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he called the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent. He did not call any other Companion besides them. When all the Ansar had gathered, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came and asked, "How true is what I have heard about you?" The wise men among the Ansar replied, "O Messenger of Allah, those among us who are sensible have not uttered any such thing. Yes, a few young men have said, 'May Allah forgive the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and not to us, even though their blood is still dripping from our swords.'" Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I give to some people whose time of disbelief is still recent (and by giving to them, I win their hearts). Are you not pleased that while other people return with wealth and property, you will return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? By Allah, what you are taking back with you is better than what others are taking back." All the Ansar said, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah, we are pleased and happy with this." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them, "After me, you will see that others will be preferred over you. At that time, be patient (do not cause strife) until you meet Allah and His Messenger at the Pond of Kawthar." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, "Then we could not remain patient."
