Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: When Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion. And I am only a distributor, the Giver is Allah alone. And this Ummah will always remain established upon Allah’s command. And whoever opposes them will not be able to harm them, until Allah’s command (the Day of Judgment) comes (and this world will perish).

Brief Explanation
Allah Ta'ala grants each of you understanding according to His will. Thus, the difference in understanding is from Allah Ta'ala. At times, some Companions would hear a hadith but would not understand anything beyond its apparent meaning. Whereas someone from that era or a later era hears the same hadith and derives many rulings from it. This is a gift from Allah Ta'ala; He grants it to whomever He wills. (Murattib rahimahullah)
Narrator of the Hadith: The kunyah of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan radi Allahu anhu was Abu Abdur Rahman. He belonged to the Umayyad family. He was born five years before the Prophethood of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He accepted Islam on the day of the conquest of Makkah and joined the company of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He was a scribe of revelation. He was appointed as governor of Syria by Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, and remained in this position during the era of Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu as well. Then, due to the issue of retribution for Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu, he did not pledge allegiance to Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu and declared Syria as his independent state. Later, Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali radi Allahu anhu made peace with him for the unity of the Ummah. 163 ahadith are narrated from him, of which four are agreed upon (muttafaqun alayh). According to the correct opinion, he passed away in 60 Hijri.
