Abu Hazim bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that some people came to Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him). They were differing among themselves regarding which tree the wood of the Prophet’s pulpit (peace and blessings be upon him) was from. Therefore, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about it. He said, “Allah is my witness, I know which wood the Prophet’s pulpit was made from, the very first day it was placed, and I also know when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat on it for the first time. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man to a certain woman from among the Ansar (Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) also mentioned her name) and told him to ask her to have her carpenter slave join together some wood for me, so that when I have something to say to the people, I may sit on it.” So she told her slave, and he made it from the wood of the tamarisk tree of Ghaba. That Ansari woman sent it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had it placed here. I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer standing on it, he pronounced the takbir standing on it, and he bowed (ruku’) on it. Then he stepped back in reverse and prostrated at the base of the pulpit, and then did the same again. When he finished the prayer, he addressed the people and said, “O people, I did this so that you may follow me and learn to pray as I do.”
