Hadith 312

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that previously, while performing prayer, we used to talk as well; anyone would speak to his brother regarding any need of his, until this verse was revealed: "Guard strictly the prayers, especially the middle prayer, and stand before Allah with devotion." (Al-Baqarah 2:238) Through this verse, we were commanded to remain silent during prayer.

Brief Explanation
Hadith Narrator: The kunyah of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam radi Allahu anhu was Abu ‘Umar or Abu ‘Amir. He was young at the time of Uhud; therefore, he came to the battlefield for the first time at Khandaq. He participated in seventeen expeditions (ghazawat). He used to suffer from eye pain due to which he could not see. After the passing of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Allah Ta‘ala restored his eyesight. He passed away in Kufa in 66 or 68 Hijri.
