297 صحيح حديث جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ: رَأَيْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ
Muhammad bin Munkadir (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I saw Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) praying in a single garment, and he informed me that he had seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also praying in a single garment.
Brief Explanation
In the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), most people possessed only a single garment. With that, they would cover their private parts and perform prayer. Sayyiduna Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) performed prayer in a single garment, despite having other clothes available, so that people would know the permissibility of this as well. In this manner, the prayer will be valid and correct. This is the verdict (fatwa) of the majority of the Ummah. (Raaz)
